Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos is willing to join Manchester United after the Red Devils held preliminary talks with the French outfit over the player's signature, reports The Sun.
Marquinhos, who signed for the French moneybags in the summer of 2013 for £26 million, could now complete a stunning move to Old Trafford, with Louis van Gaal seemingly intent on bringing him to the Premier League.
However, there's a huge stumbling block, with the same report revealing that the Red Devils have been told to pay as much as £112 million for the youngster, who was left out of the Brazil World Cup squad this past summer.
That figure, of course, would break the current world record, with it being suggested that the club's valuation was said in a 'jokey manner'.
In fact, a source told The Sun: “It was said in a jokey manner but Paris Saint-Germain are certain to expect a huge return on their investment to show they did not spend all that money for Marquinhos for nothing.”
£112m would no doubt prove a ridiculous sum for the player's services, but it certainly appears that the French outfit will play hardball over the future of the 20-year-old.
United in need
It now remains to be seen as to whether the Red Devils hierarchy step up their interest in the talented Brazilian or whether they look elsewhere as they go in search of improving in the defensive department.
There's no doubt about it, with the January transfer widnow in full swing, fans of United will be hoping that the club add to their back-line sooner rather than later.
In truth, after the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Co. departed the Theatre of Dreams at the end of last season, the trio of Phil Jones, Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling have all endured tricky seasons, while new signing Marcos Rojo has failed to maintain his fitness throughout the course of the season.
