Manchester United goalkeeper has a stunning model/popstar girlfriend gearing up to represent Spain at the Eurovision Song Contest, but he's a metal head at heart and couldn't resist the the chance to check out Slipknot when their ear-splitting tour rolled into the North West last night.
If De Gea's heavy musical tastes are anything to go by he's our kind of guy, but surely he struggles to get Slipknot or anything else from the decidedly niche thrash metal genre on in the home dressing room at Old Trafford?
Michael Carrick gearing up for a huge Premier League showdown by smashing everything in sight to the tune of Megadeath? A superb image sure, but unfortunately we don't think so.
Come on David, get down the front!
De Gea decided to share a lighter non-football moment with his fans by posting a picture from Slipknot's collaboration with Korn at the Manchester Arena on Tuesday night, at the rather subtly titled: 'The Prepare for Hell Tour'
Come on David, surely the thought of training with Louis van Gaal on Wednesday morning wasn't that bad? The 24-year-old was there for pleasure rather than pain though of course, describing the gig as "amazing" in a message that seemed to take the vast majority of his 4.2 million Twitter followers by surprise.
Here come the hilarious responses
Despite being on record as loving bands like Slipknot as Avenged Sevenfold a large section of De Gea's most vocal keyboard warriors clearly thought he was more of an Ed Sheeran man like captain Wayne Rooney, sending a string of comical messages as a reply to his Slipknot tribute.
A fan with the tag @_littletorres could not believe her eyes, but her reply was easily trumped by a rather more perceptive fellow-metal head in reflective mood.
Red Devils fans will hope this switched-on response gave him food for thought on the way home from a mid-week jaunt, as rumours of a move back to Madrid simply refuse to die down. Jon-T we salute you!
