Bebe was brought up in a poor suburb of Lisbon and his rise caught attention due to the fairytale nature of his acquisition by Manchester United. And, after numerous disappointments, the player is looking forward to having the chance to relaunch his career with Cordoba.
His original transfer to Manchester United appeared to come from nowhere. Anticipation gave way to hype, hoping that Sir Alex Ferguson had unearthed an everyman gem. The hype was unsustainable and, inevitably, it ended badly.
Between accusations of shady dealings the whole situation was all a bit odd. Ferguson admitted that he’d never seen Bebe play before.
Recommended by former assistant Carlo Queiroz, the player arrived at Manchester United with the burden of a reported £7.4million fee. The whole situation only got weirder with the involvement of Portuguese agent Jorge Mendes and suggestions that his previous club only got 40 percent of the fee.
However Bebe took time to clear things up ahead of his loan move to Cordoba. Speaking to Marca, the Portuguese player said that Jorge Mendes is like “another father.” He tells how after five games in a street football tournament he went to the agent’s house and decided that Mendes would be his representative.

In regards to the relatively high fee Bebe claims that he had a £6.9million release clause in his contract, which Manchester United activated without him making any appearances in the Portuguese league.
Only six months after signing for Vitoria de Guimaraes and he was off to Old Trafford. “...I went to Manchester. I thought they were joking,” said Bebe.
Although Manchester was not all that he thought it would, Bebe puts it down to inexperience. Everything came too soon for him. He added: “Although I learnt a lot with Ferguson, I was alone. I needed more experience to come to terms with it."
Bebe wants to play football, something he wasn’t good enough to do at Manchester United, and was too injured to do with Besiktas or Rio Ave. He believes that his best football came playing for Pacos de Ferreira.
“There I started a new life: I played a lot which was needed and I responded.”
Picked up last summer by Benfica for around £2million, Bebe suggests that he made a mistake joining the Portuguese giants. “I joined Benfica and saw I wasn’t going to get much space, so I asked to leave to come here [Cordoba].”
Finally seeming to have found a place where he is content and able to play, Bebe hopes to start against Real Madrid and compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo. “Playing against Real Madrid is a dream… Cristiano is a player I admire.”
