4:55pm - Rangers 'keeper charged for betting breach

Rangers goalkeeper Steve Simonsen has reportedly been charged by the Scottish Football Association for allegedly breaching betting rules.

The 35-year-old, who was banned from driving from 12 months as of April last year for being behind the wheel whilst over the legal alcohol limit will face an investigation, and his career could be in jeopardy as a result.

4.10pm - Kell Brook ready for showdown

After revealing that he will defend his IBF World Welterweight title against ‘Jo Jo’ Dan at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield on March 28, Kell Brook has insisted that he's feeling incredible, but won't be underestimating his challenger.

“After everything that’s happened over the last six months, it feels incredible knowing I will be defending my World title in Sheffield.

“I want to get this mandatory out of the way and then target those mega fights that are out there in the division. There is no chance that I will be underestimating Jo Jo Dan though as I know how he will be feeling having worked so hard to get into the mandatory position just like I did, but I will be working twice as hard to keep the belt that I earned.”

3:38pm - Eoin Morgan victim of blackmail

England's one-day captain, Eoin Morgan, was the victim of a blackmail attempt worth a five-figure sum, from an Australian woman he had a relationship with five years ago.

The Police were swiftly contacted in response, and it's been confirmed that no action will be taken against the Australian man involved, who has since apologised. The blackmail was thought to be centered around the threat of the man contacting English media sources.

2:45pm - Fernando Alonso to test new McLaren car

Fernando Alonso will become the first man to test the new McLaren car - the MP4-30 - at Jerez between 1-4 February.

The Spaniard, who has joined the team from Ferrari, wrote on Twitter that he is "ready to enjoy the challenge".

12:20pm - Kell Brook's next fight announced

Kell Brook is set to return to the ring to fight in the maiden defence of his IBF title against Jo Jo Dan in March, with promoter Eddie Hearn having confirmed the news at a press conference in Sheffield.

The 28-year-old hasn't featured in a bout since being stabbed whilst on holiday in Tenerife, and will square off against Dan, who has 34 wins under his belt.

11.45AM - Hope Solo suspended for 30 days

Hope Solo, the goalkeeper of the US women's soccer team, has been suspended for 30 days after an incident during a recent training camp.

The 'keeper, who is 33-years-old, will now miss the national side's fixtures with the duo of France and England next month.

11:13am - Cook confirmed for MCC squad

Alastair Cook has been confirmed as part of the MCC squad for both the Emirates T20 tournament and Champion County match in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

The England captain is set to open the batting alongside new Middlesex man Nick Compton, as he looks to get practise for the three-match Test series for his country against the West Indies in April.

10:50am - Pacquiao: Mayweather 'maybe scared'

Manny Pacquiao has suggested arch-nemesis Floyd Mayweather is 'maybe scared to lose', hence why he hasn't put pen to paper on his half of what would surely be one of the biggest fights of all time.

Pacquiao has signed his papers and is awaiting Mayweather's response, though the American has yet to offer an indication that he will give the world the bout it wants to see.

9:56am - Ryan Mason signs new Tottenham deal

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that midfielder Ryan Mason has signed a new deal which will keep him at White Hart Lane until 2020. 9:40am - Andy Murray wrong for splitting with coach - Ivanisevic

Andy Murray might win more Grand Slams as a result, but he was wrong to part ways with former coach Ivan Lendl, according to former Wimbledon winner Goran Ivanisevic. The Scot left Lendl in March last year as the latter supposedly couldn't commit to enough days on tour.

"Last year was up and down for him, he changed the coaches. For me that's maybe his biggest mistake, letting Ivan go," Ivanisevic said.

"Because it was a perfect match. They did everything well together."

9:20am - Real Madrid top Deloitte rich list

English giants Manchester United moved up from fourth to second in the list, with the overall combined revenue from the top 20 richest clubs - for the 2013/14 season - coming it at approximately €6.2 billion.
