Wayne Rooney fancies trying X Factor after football

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney is the main man for the Red Devils on the pitch - but he reckons he’s got the X Factor off it too.

The England striker wants to try his luck in front of Simon Cowell and company once he retires from playing. The 29-year-old admitted on the MUTV show ‘The Big United Quiz’ that it’s one of his ambitions to appear on ITV talent contest The X Factor.

“When I finish playing, I would like to do something like X Factor,” Rooney told MUTV show host Angus Deayton.

Rooney clearly fancies himself as a bit of a crooner. He has been recorded singing ‘Lego House’ with pop superstar Ed Sheeran and took to the mic during Manchester United’s Christmas party earlier this season.

It remains to be seen whether the Manchester United star is a hit on the stage, but at Old Trafford he remains a key contributor.

He’s bagged 14 goals in all competitions for United and England so far this season, although he was badly missed during United’s recent match against Cambridge in the FA Cup.

United were held to a 0-0 draw by the League Two side, and now face a replay as they look to progress to the Fifth Round of the competition.
