With WrestleMania XXXI almost upon us fans will start to book their fantasy matches for what they wish to see at the event, but one clash which has popped up in conversation for the past few years is a showdown between brothers Goldust and Cody Rhodes.

It’s a match fans have been waiting for as many WrestleMania’s passed us by – and the biggest pay-per-view of the year seems like the ideal event to host this match.

Last year looked the year the match would finally happen, with both Cody Rhodes and Goldust enjoying great success as a team when they were WWE Tag Team Champions, before a string of losses took a strain on their relationship and success as a team.

STARDUST

But the fans weren’t so lucky. It was thought that Goldust would be retiring towards SummerSlam 2014, but instead Cody Rhodes reinvigorated the team by bringing in a new character in Stardust and the brothers continue to entertain on a weekly basis.

PWInsider have published a report where they’ve taken a look at what is next for Stardust and Goldust, as a team they’re two-time champions – once as Cody Rhodes and once as Stardust - but since their loss they haven’t really hit the heights reached at the beginning of their run as a tag team.

They’re certainly nowhere near the WWE Tag Team Championship picture at this moment in time, with the likes of The Miz and Damien Mizdow and even The Ascension rising up the ranks.

The brothers will be seen in the 30-man Royal Rumble match and this could be the last time the WWE could capitalise on the situation and finally make a match between the two at WrestleMania, if not then a potential match could take place later on in the year.

RETIREMENT

PWInsider have reported that Goldust is beginning to ease out of his role as a WWE superstar and will call time on his in-ring career and begin transitioning into his role as an agent.

He was expected to take up the role of an agent back at SummerSlam last year, but with the success of Gold and Stardust his move was pushed back and now it’s expected that Goldust will retire as a performer shortly after WrestleMania 31.

Until the time comes, it is thought that both Goldust and Stardust will start to fade out as a tag team where Cody Rhodes will move forward as a singles superstar but will stick with the Stardust character, in the hope of following in his brother’s footsteps and the success he has had as Goldust.

STARDUST OR CODY RHODES?

If a potential match between the brothers is to happen, fans will be torn as to who Goldust should face in his final match in the WWE. It should definitely be against his younger brother but whether it’s Cody Rhodes or Stardust remains to be seen.

It will be great to see Cody Rhodes come back and take on his quirky older brother and be put over by Goldust which would be a huge deal for Rhodes as he could move forward and stay as Cody; but at the same time picking up a win over a similar character and gimmick in Stardust will be a great passing of the torch moment.

Goldust has been a great servant to the WWE and whenever he does call time on his career, he deserves to have one final, epic match against his brother.
