New York Jets stars Sheldon Richardson and Nick Mangold have ripped into the New England Patriots for the deflate gate scandal.
The Patriots are in the process of trying to prepare for their Super Bowl matchup against the Seattle Seahawks at the weekend, but all the attention at the moment is on the controversy that the team finds themselves wound up in.
Jets center Mangold and defensive tackle Richardson played in the Pro Bowl on Sunday night, and both made sure they got in a word or two about the Patriots newest cheating controversy in interviews after the exhibition.
“That’s the Patriots,” Richardson said according to the New York Post. “I’m not surprised at all. If they ain’t winning with controversy, they ain’t winning.
“It’s funny when they say, ‘We keep it professional and clean cut.’ Because they don’t. They don’t at all.”
Richardson loves to have his say on things and never passes up a chance on the microphone to generate a quote, but Mangold coming up with some barbs aimed at their rivals was a bit more unexpected.
But the center still took his shot, insinuating that where there's smoke there usually is fire.
“All 12 of [the Patriots’] balls having something wrong with them does tell you something is amiss,” Mangold told reporters.
The Jets stars are taking off where Seattle Seahawks stud Richard Sherman left off. The cornerback made a similar comment about Tom Brady just last week, saying the Patriots quarterback isn’t the “clean cut” guy that some believe him to be.
