Ex-Chelsea defender David Luiz could play a key role in helping his former club land Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane, according to the Express.
The report has suggested that Real chiefs are ready to make a £50 million swoop for the signature of PSG ace Luiz, meaning the Blues would be handed the green light in their attempts to bring Varane to the Premier League.
It appears, then, that Carlo Ancelotti is ready to partner the enigmatic Luiz alongside Sergio Ramos, which would ultimately see Varane head out of the Bernabeu exit door.
And with Chelsea extremely interested, the talented Frenchman may well end up at the Bridge sooner rather than later. Jose Mourinho certainly has a strong relationship with the youngster after previously handing him a key role when he managed Varane in Spain, so may well look to Varane as a key man for the future as the Blues go in search of long term success.
Of course, the Blues currently have the duo of Gary Cahill and John Terry at their disposal, but the latter is now in the latter career of his career. In fact, the same report has suggested that Mourinho could look to partner Varane alongside fellow French youngster Kurt Zouma.

Chelsea, though, do have a rival in the race to land Varane, with Manchester United seemingly interested in his signature. However, the report from the Express has suggested that Varane would rather join the Stamford Bridge outfit.
A Varane move to Chelsea, then, may well depend on whether Luiz makes a swift exit from France, but the Blues certainly seem ready to add to their defensive department, with the £20m rated Frenchman appearing to be their top target.
For now, though, Chelsea will be focussing on this weekend's crunch Premier League clash with title rivals Manchester City. The Blues currently lead the Citizens at the top of the table by five points so could steer well clear of Manuel Pellegrini with a victory on Saturday.
Chelsea, much like City, will be desperate to bounce back after a disappointing FA Cup exit this past weekend.
