WrestleMania XXXI card could see Daniel Bryan take on Sheamus

With the Royal Rumble event now in the books all attention will turn to WrestleMania XXXI. Even though WWE Fast Lane is still yet to come and go the focus will be on what matches could take place in Santa Clara on a night where Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns will headline the event.

On Sunday it was Roman who reigned at the Royal Rumble after outlasting 29 other superstars, confirming his spot in the main event of WrestleMania XXXI. He will challenge Brock Lesnar who successfully defended his WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the same night against Seth Rollins and John Cena.

With the Road to WrestleMania now kicking off, The Wrestling Observer have reported on the big matches the fans should expect to see take place at WrestleMania on March 29. Plans can and possibly will change but the following are the matches either being discussed or finalised right now.

Sheamus vs Daniel Bryan

Daniel Bryan fans probably won’t be happy with this one. The fans were very disappointed at his elimination in the Royal Rumble and with many of the other top superstars involved in matches it looks like this is the best Bryan could be getting. It’s no secret that Bryan has grown into a huge star and is definitely too big for this match whilst Sheamus has slowly declined since his heel days and we should be seeing The Celtic Warrior returning as a heel at last.

The WWE have to be prepared for the outrage from the WWE Universe surrounding the way Bryan was treated, and there’s no way Bryan or anyone else will be inserted into the main event like he was last year regardless of what the WWE Universe wants this time round.

it took Vince McMahon a lot of persuading to get Bryan into the main event last year and it probably would have pained him to see Bryan win the big one, this time round it definitely won’t happen. Daniel Bryan’s original plan in 2014 was to challenge Sheamus at WrestleMania XXX but the WWE didn’t go ahead with it, this year the match looks to be going ahead.

Seth Rollins vs Randy Orton

A lot of fans thought Randy Orton would be returning in the Royal Rumble match but that didn’t happen, even though he was backstage. The plan for a number of months has been to put Orton up against Mr. Money in the Bank, Seth Rollins. Orton still needs to get his hands on Rollins after he Curb Stomped The Viper out of action, so when Orton does return he will be a face.

The match itself should be great, they are both great workers and Orton won’t hesitate in putting Rollins over and making him look brilliant on a stage like WrestleMania. At the same time, don’t rule out Orton winning as this could allow a fired-up Rollins to cash in that night and create history. Whether its wishful thinking or an actual possibility remains to be seen.

Rusev vs John Cena

The seeds were planted on the Royal Rumble fallout show exclusive to the WWE Network. John Cena was being interviewed backstage when Rusev decided to interrupt him and let out his frustrations before Cena pushed him and Rusev shoved him back.

Several WWE superstars had to keep the two separate so they didn't come to further blows. But just as various outlets including ourselves have been reporting, a John Cena and Rusev feud has been in the works for a while and this looks like one of the few matches set in stone.

The match itself probably isn’t something a lot of the WWE Universe want to see but I for one cannot wait for this, Rusev has the potential to go on to become an even bigger heel than he already is and the only way that can happen is if he somehow manages to defeat John Cena. John Cena didn’t put Bray Wyatt over last year, this year he needs to let Rusev win if Rusev is to stand any chance of going down as one of the most dominating superstars for years to come.

Sting vs Triple H

Another match which the fans will want to see purely for the spectacle, is Sting taking on Triple H. We will finally get to see Sting inside a WWE ring and compete and there’s no bigger stage than WrestleMania. He’s had two run-ins with Triple H now and there’s no way the COO will take this lying down, we can expect to see Triple H retaliating in a way only he can in the weeks to come.

Bray Wyatt vs The Undertaker

The WWE believe The Undertaker will return for WrestleMania, if he does then Bray Wyatt is said to be the opponent they want him to face. The match should be good if Wyatt can carry The Undertaker and the build-up will be fantastic with so many mind-games potentially being on show. The WWE kept Wyatt strong against Ambrose and that’s the reason he had a great Royal Rumble showing, eliminating six superstars.

Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns

This will most likely be Brock Lesnar’s final match in the WWE which means Roman Reigns will become our new WWE World Heavyweight Champion. All feelings aside, this is a huge occasion for Roman Reigns with so much pressure already on his shoulders, he needs a great outing in the main event to try and win the fans over. Who knows whether Reigns will even walk out with the championships by the end of WrestleMania?
