John Cena is the WWE's most prized asset but he has come in for plenty of criticism over the past couple of years. Sunday, however, wasn't one of those days.
Cena managed to escape the much criticized Royal Rumble pay-per-view without any scratches, but that didn't stop him commenting on the event via Twitter on Monday.
Fans across the WWE Universe responded angrily to the WWE's decision to hand Daniel Bryan an early exit, with #CancelWWENetwork even trending worldwide after the show following the crash of the WWE Network's cancellation page online.
Cena responds to fans
Despite the appearance of legendary wrestler The Rock, fans mercilessly booed the eventual Royal Rumble winner, Roman Reigns. WWE Chairman Vince McMahon is said to be surprised at the extent of fans' disapproval, with Reigns' popularity dwindling in recent months due to a perceived lack of talent on the mic.
In a somewhat surprising move, Cena decided to respond to the goings on at Royal Rumble with a tweet of his own on Monday.
- WWE poll proves fans hated Royal Rumble
- WWE fans left booing dramatic Royal Rumble ending
- Why The Rock could make surprise Royal Rumble return
FoxSports speculated that the tweet could be a shot at WWE's creative for making the decision to give Roman Reigns a chance at the WWE Heavyweight Championship belt, with Reigns set to main event WrestleMania 31 in March.
In reality, Cena is clearly talking about the fans' reaction and the so-called 'miss' that he's referring to is the WWE's lack of positive response to the pay-per-view.
More embarrassment for WWE
Meanwhile, Vince McMahon's reaction to the Royal Rumble furore has angered quite a lot of WWE fans. McMahon understood that the decision to force Bryan to exit early from Royal Rumble would warrant some backlash, but McMahon is still said to have been truly shocked that WWE fans went to such lengths to complain about the decision.
Things got even more embarrassing for WWE 24 hours later when they ran a poll on their Facebook page asking fans what they thought of Royal Rumble. The vast majority declared their deep dissatisfaction at what they witnessed during the pay-per-view with tens of thousands of fans choosing the thumbs down option.
