Liverpool are close to their first notable signing of the January transfer window, with a deal for PSG's Ezequiel Lavezzi set to be completed in the next few days.
The Argentine was a target for the Anfield side back in the summer, however, since then Lavezzi has been kept out of the Ligue 1 champions' winter training camp and his most recent appearance was a five-minute cameo against Saint-Etienne.
With his future very much in doubt with reports he is furious over his current treatment at PSG, the Express reports Liverpool's scouts were at the Parc de Princes for PSG's last game and that a deal set to be around £14 million should be completed before the window closes on Tuesday.
A much-needed addition
Certainly the Reds are in need of a top-class forward, with Daniel Sturridge only just set to return after over five months on the sidelines and summer purchases Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert failing to produce the goods up front.
The potential purchase of Lavezzi has already been given the thumbs up by former Liverpool legend Phil Thompson, who told the Express: "Liverpool need someone who is a bit more established and who has played at a higher level like Gonzalo Higuain or Ezequiel Lavezzi."

The 29-year-old has only scored twice in 20 appearances in all competitions this season for the Parisian giants and a total of 14 since his £19.5 million move from Italian club Napoli in 2012, but it is his pace that makes him an attractive target for Brendan Rodgers's team.
Liverpool are also looking at possible replacements for Steven Gerrard once the Anfield legend leaves at the end of the season and two names have been mentioned as possible targets.
The next Busquets
The first is Porto's 17-year-old starlet Ruben Neves, who has been linked with several top European clubs in recent weeks.
The midfielder has impressed after he was drafted up from the academy at the Portuguese club in the summer with another new arrival, former Barcelona player Christian Tello, comparing him to Sergio Busquets.
Such has been his impact, Porto have put a release clause of £29m in his newly-signed contract, which runs until 2017, however, that hasn't stopped Liverpool from showing interest in once again looking long-term with their signings.
Reds to steal United target?
Also touted is Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke, with the 23-year-old having a £44 million release clause in his contract.
The Spaniard has earned the reputation as one of the best midfielder's in La Liga and while the current Spanish champions have a reputation for selling their best players for the right price, Koke has already declared he is very happy at Atletico.
