Angel Di Maria told people in Spain that he regretted joining Manchester United last summer, according to Spanish journalist Manuel Esteban Manolete.
The correspondent, who works for well-known Spanish daily Marca, made the claim whilst on television channel La Goleada, and it has since been spirited around the web. Manolete, who has made bold transfer claims in the past, professes to have knowledge that Di Maria may not have fully bought into Louis van Gaal’s ideas at Old Trafford since making his incredible switch there from Real Madrid in the summer of 2014.
Since his arrival on English shores the Argentine international has endured mixed fortunes, first impressing both with goals and assists, before seeing his momentum come to a halt.
Di Maria thoughts
Recently he hasn’t been anywhere near his best, and with United looking to press on and challenge the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea he’ll need to do better if he’s to ensure his debut season in the Premier League doesn’t go down as a disappointment.
In contrast to the Red Devils Di Maria’s former club Real are looking resplendent once more. Los Blancos sit top of La Liga and progressed from their Champions League group with consummate ease, maintaining a perfect record as they did so.

Yet it may not just be the fortunes of his old haunt that he’s keeping an eye on, as Paris Saint-Germain, whom Di Maria was heavily linked with prior to opting to sign for United, were a club he could well have ended up at.
The Ligue 1 champions are four points off of the top spot in France, but are also participating in this season’s Champions League, and United’s omission from the competition this term could be weighing on him.
It goes without saying that Van Gaal is going to have to ensure that his side finish in the top four if he’s to keep the majority of his best players content with life at Old Trafford, as well as have the reputation to attract those who have yet to join his cause.
