Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan has said that Bill Belichick is probably to blame for the New England Patriots latest saga.
No, not DeflateGate, but rather the news that the Patriots have been woken up for the second time in three days at their hotel in Arizona by a false fire alarm in their preparation for the Super Bowl.
And Ryan - who has duelled with Belichick so many times as the head coach of the New York Jets - has firmly labeled Belichick as suspect number one.
“Let’s face it: Belichick probably did it himself. He’s the one that pulled the thing and created a different story." - Rex Ryan
"Those things happen. You try to prepare your team in the offseason – training camps and all that kind of stuff. Would you pull a fire alarm or something? You may,” Ryan added when he appeared on ESPN from their Phoenix base in the lead up to SuperBowl 49.
It would be right up Belichick’s alley to try these shenanigans. “Ironically that’s happened to us a couple times in New England,” Ryan cracked. “I don’t think it’s that big a deal unless it’s the night before.”
Ryan then went and had his say on deflategate, calling it a black eye for the NFL.
“It’s an unfortunate black eye for the NFL,” Ryan said “Hopefully everything (will smooth) out, we figure out what’s up and we don’t have to talk about it anymore. You talking about deflating the balls. Ironically, what Seattle needs to do is take the air out of the football to beat New England in the Super Bowl.”
This is genuinely funny if Belichick has tried to create some news by disturbing his own players. I didn't think a run up to a Super Bowl could get any weirder but oh how wrong i was. FireAlarmGate just doesn't have the same ring to it though, which is the real shame in all of this.
