Frank Lampard. Face in the moon. A £500 bet.
It's perhaps the most unlikely of combinations, but is now a genuine story that could go down in football folklore if it somehow comes off this weekend.
Kieran O'Brien, the plucky punter who's put a decent wedge on the Chelsea legend breaking Jose Mourinho's heart once again, is certainly gaining some notoriety after placing the wager on Betfair.
A host of media outlets have picked up the story, and now @McFc_Kieran has given an interview to the bookmaker explaining just why he decided to bet big on the moon.
“I’d booked some time off work so I could catch up with friends before I go to the City game on Saturday. I was being a bit of an unashamed tourist, posting some pretty cringe worthy snaps on twitter when my mate sent me the screen grab. I thought he was taking the mickey as it took me a while to see the likeness to Lampard," he said in a press release sent to GiveMeSport.
"However, I’m a superstitious bloke particularly when it comes to football, so thought it’s worth a punt on Lamps to score first against his former club. My mates think I’m mad, but stranger things have happened, particularly with the form Frank’s been in this season!”
Given that Lampard has generally been used as a substitute by Citizens boss Manuel Pellegrini this season, O'Brien will be hoping for a cagey affair at Stamford Bridge before the former England midfielder makes his entrance.
He's already notched once against his old club this season, scoring the equaliser in the 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium earlier this season.
That wasn't the first goal however, and if anything the 9/1 on offer looks a little short despite Lampard's goalscoring record from midfield. Should he pull it off though, this backer will have a cool £5000 in his pocket.
For the record, a Betfair spokesperson added: “We’ve struggled to see the likeness in the office."
