It’s no secret that the WWE Universe were furious when Roman Reigns walked out of Philadelphia as the winner of the Royal Rumble, and the fact that Daniel Bryan was eliminated early on in the match didn’t help either.
Bryan’s loyal fan base refused to back down long after his elimination from the Royal Rumble, and this week it was rumoured that Daniel Bryan will be taking on Sheamus at WrestleMania XXXI.
As expected, that didn’t sit well with the WWE Universe as a WrestleMania clash between The Celtic Warrior and Bryan has already happened twice at WrestleMania, once in a Lumberjack match which ended in a no contest for Sheamus’ United States Championship and nobody can forget that the night Daniel Bryan lost his Championship in 18 seconds to Sheamus.
Since then, Bryan’s stock has seen a meteoritic rise and he’s definitely the most over with the crowd right now and will be for quite some time.
Now that the rumours surrounding a Sheamus clash have dissolved, a potential clash with Dolph Ziggler is also on the table and that is something the fans are into. Here are other potential big matches Bryan could compete in if the WWE decide against Sheamus.
Dolph Ziggler is the obvious and a likely option for the WWE. Nothing can go wrong in this match, even if there is nothing on the line such as a title or even a number one contender spot, the fans will make sure their voices are heard throughout the duration of this match.
Dolph Ziggler has already offered Daniel Bryan the opportunity to work opposite him at WrestleMania, to which Bryan accepted and now the WWE have also picked up on this so it looks as if the WWE could save the fans from another Sheamus and Daniel Bryan match.
Both superstars have a huge fan base, and even though the talent is there I still don’t think Ziggler could headline WrestleMania right now. However, it doesn’t matter whether Ziggler is ready for it or not, he can work better than most in the company and a Bryan and Ziggler clash is a win-win situation, both men would put on a spectacle.
Right now it looks as if Seth Rollins will finally meet Randy Orton at WrestleMania. That match itself will be fantastic but it would have nothing on a Seth Rollins and Daniel Bryan match. The two have competed against one another before, long before they reached the WWE and the heights they are at now so the chemistry is there.
Nothing is stopping the WWE from having Rollins take on Randy Orton at Fast Lane rather than WrestleMania and giving Randy Orton a different opponent. Daniel Bryan can work, Seth Rollins can work and there is a little gold briefcase which could also play a big part in making this match that much more epic.
Having the briefcase on the line would give this match more meaning and make it a lot more competitive, as Bryan is one of few superstars who would be a genuine threat to the briefcase regardless of his size. But there’s something more important, we’ve seen and heard the reaction Roman Reigns has received because he won the Rumble and the manner in which it was won whereas Bryan was eliminated early. Seth Rollins is the biggest heel in the business and what better way to make him the ultimate heel and the most hated guy for the remainder of the year than with over 70,000 fans booing him and at the same time, cheering for Bryan. It makes perfect sense.
This one is a little trickier, only because the build-up to this – as entertaining as it could be – means Ambrose probably needs to be a heel for this to have its full effect. Turning Ambrose heel is what the fans really want but either way he brings entertainment every single week. Ambrose can also work in the ring and he needs a big match at WrestleMania after the year he has had.
If Ziggler is not available for WrestleMania and it comes down to Dean Ambrose and Sheamus, the fans will definitely pick having Ambrose go up against Daniel Bryan. The match would be great, the build-up will need to have something which makes the fans want to tune in and I believe the WWE could potentially pull something out of the bag with it.
The likes of Rusev, John Cena and even Chris Jericho could be considered to take on Daniel Bryan. If the WWE don’t go ahead with Rusev and Cena at WrestleMania and conclude the rivalry at Fast Lane then both men could be freed up, especially with the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal coming up and Rusev could probably put on a good showing there, unless there is something bigger planned for him.
A rematch between John Cena and Daniel Bryan could be one to watch, the two had a great match at SummerSlam last year before John Cena’s exit and if something is on the line here, such as a number one contender spot for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, then the fans could very well be intrigued.
Chris Jericho may want to be a part of WrestleMania, even though he’s agreed to do house shows only I doubt even a legend like Jericho could turn down the opportunity to compete at WrestleMania, against the most popular superstar in the WWE today.
