Manchester United's informal bid for Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has still not been rejected, according to EPSN.
The report, citing club sources, has suggested that the Red Devils made their move for the player as far back as November.
In fact, the same report has revealed that United still haven't given up hope of landing Hummels in this January transfer window, while it has also been suggested that they could yet make a move for Athletic Bilbao's Aymeric Laporte before Monday's deadline.
It appears, then, that Manchester Unite could yet add to their back-line over the coming days after an extremely quiet past couple of weeks.
United in need
And there's no doubt about it, United fans will most certainly be hoping that the club land either of Hummels or Laporte sooner rather than later. In truth, under the Louis van Gaal regime, United have struggled in the defensive department, with a number of players failing to prove their credentials.

The trio of Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans and Phil Jones have failed to maintain their fitness and hit top form, while new signing Marcos Rojo has struggled to settle at the Theatre of Dreams because of injury problems.
Hummels, then, could yet become a Manchester United player, but it remains to be seen as to whether the Red Devils will be able to complete a deal in the next few days.
The German international would no doubt prove a leader at the back for Van Gaal's side as he could help command the defensive department at Old Trafford. His experience would no doubt help the likes of Jones and Co. thrive at the Theatre of Dreams.
However, United's Premier League rivals Arsenal have also been linked with the German ace for some time now, but it's uncertain as to whether they'd be willing to rival the Red Devils for the player's signature after securing the services of Gabriel Paulista.
