Real Madrid star Asier Illarramendi has rejected the chance to join Athletic Bilbao as he's hoping Arsenal will make a move for his services in the summer transfer window, according to the Express.
The report has suggested that Illarramendi, who only joined Carlo Ancelotti's side from Real Sociedad in 2013, is unhappy at the Bernabeu, but is now prepared to wait and see if the Gunners step up their interest in him in the next transfer window.
There's no doubt about it, it's certainly been a torrid time for the Spaniard of late, as he's failed to prove his credentials under the guidance of Ancelotti.
With the likes of Luka Modric, Sami Khedira, Toni Kroos and Co. ahead of him in the pecking order, it certainly doesn't look like he's going to secure a regular place anytime soon.
Ancelotti, though, has insisted that he's happy with the player's decision to stay on at the Bernabeu for now.

The Real boss told reporters: "He will play on Saturday. He received an offer from Athletic, but the player is comfortable and happy here.
"We're happy with him, too, because whenever he's played he's done well."
It now remains to be seen as to whether he's able to impress in the coming weeks and months of the campaign or whether he ends up a Premier League player ahead of next season.
Summer Arsenal switch?
It's certainly not surprising that Arsenal have been linked with a move for his signature in recent time, with the club's defensive-midfielders having struggled to protect the back-line at the Emirates.
The Gunners have, of course, improved defensively in this transfer window after recently signing Brazilian defender Gabriel from Spanish outfit Villarreal.
For now, though, Wenger and Co. will be concentrating on this weekend's Premier League schedule as the north London outfit play host to strugglers Aston Villa. The Gunners will be hoping to continue their fine recent run of form by securing all three points against Paul Lambert's side.
