Manchester United have now agreed to sign Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels for £37 million this summer, reports the Daily Star.
Citing Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, it has been claimed that the Borussia Dortmund centre-back, who starred for Germany at the World Cup this past summer, will move to the Red Devils once the season ends.
The Red Devils have been linked with a move for the defender for some time and it now appears that they've won the race to sign him, with rivals Arsenal also interested in his signature.
There's no doubt about it, Manchester United fans will be hoping that the transfer gets completed, with the club having struggled in the defensive department throughout the course of the campaign so far.
In truth, under the Louis van Gaal regime at the Theatre of Dreams, United's back-line have looked extremely vulnerable, with the likes of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans failint to maintain their fitness and hit top form.
Hummels, then, would no doubt provide vital experience for the Red Devils as they go in search of long term success under Van Gaal.
For now, though, it appears that the club will have to make-do with what they've got, with the likes of Evans and Co. looking to impress in the latter stages of the campaign.
