The Daily Star are reporting that Arsenal are seriously considering a deadline day swoop for Valencia left-back Jose Luis Gaya.
Real Madrid are also reportedly keen on a move to keep Gaya in Spain, with the player having impressed this season after making 19 La Liga appearances and scoring one goal for Los Che.
However, Arsene Wenger is believed to be confident of securing a deal for the 19-year-old defender before tonight’s 11pm deadline.
Wenger is prepared to activate Valencia’s £13.5 million release clause for the Spanish under-21 international, despite previously appearing reluctant to conduct any transfer deadline day business.
The Gunners have already tied up a £11.2 million deal for Brazilian defender Gabriel Paulista, while forward Joel Campbell has headed in the opposite direction, for a season long loan at Villarreal.
