Chelsea are growing increasingly wary that they could lose Eden Hazard to a top European club this summer, as the Belgium international’s wage demands have seen his contract stall.
According to the Daily Express Hazard is looking for parity, with regards to his wages, with the likes of Wayne Rooney, Sergio Aguero and Robin van Persie, who all earn upwards of £200,000-a-week.
Hazard wage demands
At the moment Diego Costa and Francesc Fabregas are the highest earners at Stamford Bridge - they take home £200,000-a-week - but Hazard is looking to eclipse both of them.
Currently sitting as perhaps the Blues’ most influential player, the 24-year-old wants to see a big hike in his £175,000-a-week wages, and with both Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain lurking Chelsea are worried that they could lose their star man during the summer transfer window.
Jose Mourinho recently confirmed that Hazard was close to signing a new five-year deal in west London, whilst the general consensus is that he wants to stay. That being said Real certainly have the money to make a huge offer in the near future, and with Los Blancos star Gareth Bale said to have an uncertain future at the Santiago Bernabeu, the Chelsea ace could be the perfect alternative.
PSG or Real?
As for PSG the chances of a deal being completed are far slimmer. Laurent Blanc has already felt the sting of the Financial Fair Play rules, having been stopped from signing Angel Di Maria, and unless he parts ways with Edinson Cavani, Ezequiel Lavezzi or more likely both, he won’t have the funds to convince Chelsea to sell and then pay Hazard adequate wages.
It now remains to be seen how far the Blues will go when it comes to the negotiations in question. With Hazard having seemingly taken a firm stance it’s clear the powers that be at Stamford Bridge need to reassess their proposal, and whilst his current deal doesn’t expire until 2017, anxieties are only going to heighten the longer the saga goes on.
Chelsea fans, do you think Hazard should be given what he wants in order to secure his future? Or is it worth risking him leaving for Real or PSG?
