It was a quiet deadline day for the red half of north London but there was one deal done by Arsene Wenger. He reportedly tied Chuba Akpom down to a long-term deal when it was looking increasingly likely that he could walk away from the club for nothing in the summer. It seems there could have been some movement in the last 24 hours of the window if Wenger was willing to play ball with Napoli, who reportedly lodged a last minute bid for Francis Coquelin according to reports in Italy. However the Frenchman opted against letting the midfielder leave. Away from the transfer market now and Per Mertesacker says that a series of crisis meetings amongst the Arsenal players after their 2-0 defeat against Southampton was the turning point and inspiration behind their recent good form. The Gunners have won five games in a row since the defeat at St. Mary’s on New Year’s Day.
