Arsenal legend Ray Parlour believes that the summer transfer window will decide whether the Gunners go on to win the Premier League next season.

Having already signed Gabriel Paulista for £11.2 million this January, Parlour believes that Arsene Wenger must splash the cash further in the summer to seriously challenge rivals Chelsea and Manchester City.

Speaking in a question and answer session with Sportlobster, Parlour said: “The squad they have now is very good, but the signings are important. The age of the squad is very good.

Arsenal ready to fight for the title

“This summer is going to be so important . They will get back to winning stuff.

“They could overturn Manchester City and Chelsea if they bring in the right players. it is time to kick on from last year’s FA Cup win.”

Who will Wenger target?

Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin is one of those players many expect Wenger to target in the summer, but Parlour believes he may no longer be required due to the emergence of Francis Coquelin.

The Frenchman produced an outstanding display in Arsenal’s impressive 2 - 0 victory over Man City earlier this month. and has been appearing regularly since December.

Parlour added “It is great to see Coquelin play well. Wenger is loyal so, if you play well, he will keep on playing you. He’s become an important player for Arsenal.”

Selection headache

Arsenal's recent run of five successive wins has left Wenger with a selection headache, but Parlour believes he has the perfect attacking formula and now just needs to finds the right blend.

“If everyone were fit, I would have Ozil on the left, Carzola in the middle and Sanchez on the right. Oliver Giroud is my striker.

“Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain would be on the bench. It is a good problem to have, though.”
