David de Gea's agent Jorge Mendes has insisted that Manchester United's executive vice chairman Ed Woodward is the right man to lead the club forward, reports the Manchester Evening News.
In fact, the same report has suggested that Mendes' regard for Woodward could help United tie De Gea down to a long term contract at Old Trafford.
Mendes, who is also the agent of the likes of Jose Mourinho, Radamel Falcao and Cristiano Ronaldo, believes Woodward can help the club secure trophies.
When speaking about the club's executive vice chairman to the BBC, Mendes said he's: "the right guy to drive Manchester United to find a way to win important trophies."
De Gea is happy
As well as insisting that Woodward is the right man to drive the Red Devils on, Mendes has revealed that De Gea is happy in Manchester.
De Gea has been linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid of late, but Mendes believes his client will stay at the Theatre of Dreams.
He continued by saying: "He has one year left on his contract and I think that he will stay in Manchester. The player will decide, but he's happy there, at the moment."
There's no doubt about it, Manchester United fans will be desperate for the 'keeper to commit his long term future with the club sooner rather than later. In truth, the shot-stopper has been United's standout player for the last 18-months, and was even named the club's Player of the Year under David Moyes last term.
It now remains to be seen as to whether the club can strike a deal with Mendes and De Gea over the coming weeks and months.
Mendes, meanwhile, has also hinted that Manchester United would still be title contenders if Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge of the club. In fact, he has gone as far as saying that the club would have as many as 12 or 15 points more if their former boss was in charge.
He's hailed Ferguson as a 'genius', and insisted that Jose Mourinho is the only current manager in the Premier League at the same level.
He finished by saying: "Completely impossible to find someone like Sir Alex Ferguson because he's a god, he's a genius and to find a genius is very difficult.
"You have one in England - Jose Mourinho. Having Sir Alex Ferguson ensures at this moment you have 12 or 15 points more.
"He's finished his career, but he's someone that's the difference."
United fans will have to make-do with Dutchman Louis van Gaal, as the side go in search of claiming a place in next year's Champions League and securing FA Cup silverware this term.
