Jose Mourinho is plotting a summer move for Pescara striker Jonathas as he looks to replace the ageing Didier Drogba, according to the Daily Express.
The paper claim that the 25-year-old Brazilian forward, currently on loan at La Liga outfit Elche for the season, has been watched over by scouts from Stamford Bridge during his last two outings, and that Mourinho is plotting to make his move once Drogba’s contract expires in the summer.
Jonathas the target
The tall forward has been at many clubs over the course of his career, and has sampled football in Holland, Italy and now Spain. He’s never played for a team that has the same ambitions as Chelsea do, but Mourinho appears confident that he will be able to do the job in the Premier League.
Known for his strength and presence in the final third the former Cruzeiro striker has been compared to none other than Diego Costa by Elche boss Fran Escriba in the past, and he certainly has the physicality to cope with the rigours of English football. Whether or not he has the ability to ensure that the absence of Drogba in the first-team is not felt is another matter entirely.
Options up top
Of course aside from the Ivorian, who could well take up coaching in west London once his contract runs up, Mourinho also has Costa and Loic Remy, both of whom are far more established talents than Jonathas.

The former has been brilliant since signing from Atletico Madrid in the summer, and though he’ll likely have to work on his temperament to become a leading figure in England with the fans, he’s certainly headed in the right direction.
Remy on the other hand has found it more difficult to make his mark under Mourinho since transferring from Queens Park Rangers. The France international has just five goals across all competitions for the Blues this term, with only two of those coming in the Premier League.
Blues running rampant
Yet at the moment keeping the goals flowing doesn’t seem to be a problem for the team, with Mourinho’s men sitting comfortably at the top of the table. The likes of Eden Hazard, Oscar and Willian have provided plenty of support for whoever is leading the line, and new signing Juan Cuadrado will only strengthen their options moving forward.
