Saint Etienne defender Loic Perrin has admitted that he wanted to join Arsenal last month following speculation linking him with a move to the Emirates Stadium.
The 29-year-old centre-back was considered by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger as a potential option if the move to sign Gabriel Paulista from Villarreal fell through.
Perrin says Arsenal did make contact with his agent and that he would have relished the opportunity to play for the north London outfit. The defender admits he would leave his current employers for Arsenal if the opportunity ever arose.
Perrin confirms contact
“There were serious contacts via my agent. I think I was on a shortlist but not at the very top apparently,” Perrin told French outlet ‘BUT!’, according to the London Evening Standard.
“A transfer in this window, it is difficult. But it is difficult to refuse Arsenal. I have always said have if I have to leave St Etienne, one day, it would be for a bigger club, a club that plays in the Champions League.

“A club like Arsenal, I don’t think many Ligue 1 players would refuse.”
Arsenal are unlikely to return for Perrin, however, after securing the services of Brazilian defender Gabriel in a deal worth £11.2 million last month.
Kaylen Hinds signs professional contract
Arsenal have confirmed the exciting news that 17-year-old forward Kaylen Hinds has signed a professional contract with the Gunners.
Hinds has appeared for Arsenal’s Under-21 team and has also featured for England at various youth levels.
The teenager helped Arsenal’s Under-19 side reach the last 16 of the UEFA Youth League this season, scoring three goals in as many appearances in the competition.
Confirming the news of his contract on Twitter, Hinds wrote: “Happy to say I've signed my first professional contract at @Arsenal hopefully the first off many.”
Dani Alves to leave Barcelona
And finally, the agent of Barcelona right-back Dani Alves has confirmed his client is almost certain to leave the Camp Nou this summer.
Alves, 31, has been linked with various Premier League clubs - including Arsenal - over recent months and could be heading to England at the end of the season.
Barcelona appear to have little desire to extend the South American’s contract, which expires at the end of the campaign, leaving him free to complete a move elsewhere.
Will Arsene Wenger be tempted to sign the world-class full-back this summer?
