Roman Reigns vs Daniel Bryan not original Fast Lane plan

Published 5 Comments

It has been revealed that the main event of the Fast Lane pay-per-view event which takes place at the end of February, was not intended to be Daniel Bryan taking on Roman Reigns.

As reported by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the supposed original plan was to have Roman Reigns face Brick Lesnar, as it came about following the Royal Rumble pay-per-view event in January.

Reigns vs Big Show

It has been made apparent that the primary scheduled plan for Roman Reigns was for him to go over a well-known heel, which would most likely have been Big Show, following the number of matches they have had of late.

There was also talk of the exchange being a Last Man Standing match, but with the alternate face-off put in place for Reigns against Bryan, it is likely that the former member of The Shield will be pitted against Big Show once again, following the giant’s win this past Monday.

Bryan vs Wyatt

With regard to Daniel Bryan, the original plan for him was apparently to have him face Bray Wyatt at Fast Lane. It was likely that Bryan would have won so that WWE were able to make him look as strong as they could ahead of the upcoming WrestleManaia XXXI.

The change in plans surely came bout because WWE realised it would be best for business and doubtlessly please more fans, if they were to have a main event which involved the people’s favourite; Daniel Bryan.

As for it being a pay-per-view event, matches like Roman Reigns vs Big Show would have been okay, but they are not stand out, top level matches which fans would look forward to massively in the build up to the event.

Bryan seems the best opponent for a main event match with Reigns, not only because of his own popularity but also because of what he could do to boost Roman Reigns’ appeal which seemed to have been lost a Royal Rumble last month.

A win for Bryan too, is certainly plausible. WWE have obviously backtracked from their original plans, and felt that the ‘Yes!’ man was the person to do the job and ultimately please the fans.

It could well be therefore that it is Bryan who we see face Brock Lesnar for the WWE Heavyweight Championship Title at WrestleMania XXXI which would doubtlessly be an incredible match.

Realistically, although they had to alter their plans, it seems WWE have done right by creating this Fast Lane match between Reigns and Bryan as there are a lot more possibilities than what they had originally planned, which makes for a far more exciting pay-per-view event.
