Chelsea’s interest in West Ham United forward Enner Valencia has gone down well, with the summer arrival from Ecuador describing the reports as being a “big compliment” and said that such reports were motivation for further improvement.
Valencia has been impressing many with his high-energy performances in the Premier League since Sam Allardyce signed him in a £12million deal from Mexican side Pachuca after some strong performances at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
So impressive that the Daily Star claims Jose Mourinho was considering a £21million deadline day move for the 25-year-old. It didn’t come to pass in the end and Blues fans saw the addition of Colombia international Juan Cuadrado after the departure of Andre Schurrle to Wolfsburg.
While he wasn’t exactly saying ‘come and get me’ to Chelsea, Valencia was not worried about admitting that interest in him from Mourinho was something he was proud of, and that he would use it as motivation.
"I found out about it from the social networks and from what my team-mates were saying,” he is quoted as saying in the Daily Star report.
"Nobody said anything definite to me. But if a team like Chelsea is interested in me, it's a big compliment. It makes me want to keep on getting better."
West Ham are flying high this season in the Premier League and the pace and power provided by Valencia in wide attacking areas has had something to do with it. Diafra Sakho is another summer arrival to boost the Hammers push up the table and the pair have developed a potent partnership.
