Cristiano Ronaldo reacted furiously after Iker Casillas gifted Atletico Madrid the opening goal in Saturday's embarrassing 4-0 derby defeat at the Vicente Calderon.
The Real Madrid goalkeeper's early gaffe prompted several glaring looks from the Portuguese superstar, who was clearly peeved about the early setback suffered by Carlo Ancelotti's side.
Ronaldo's obvious irritation was picked up by a pitchside camera, fuelling speculation the 30-year-old forward's relationship with the skipper has grown increasingly frosty.
Los Blancos succumbed to their heaviest defeat in more than four years after goals from Tiago, Saul Niguez, Antoine Griezmann and Mario Mandzukic closed the gap between themselves and the early season pacesetters to four points.
Despite the latest setback, Ronaldo remains confident that it will be Real sitting pretty at the top of La Liga by the end of the season, as long as they start reproducing the sort of form on the pitch that propelled them to the summit after a 12-match winning streak during the first half of the season.
"In my opinion we are a better team than Atletico and we should be showing that on the pitch," he was quoted saying by BBC Sport. "I'm sure, in the end, we'll win La Liga.
"It was a day to forget but we are still top of the league and we know we'll have to fight right until the end. We have to put this game behind us as quickly as possible because Real Madrid can't lose 4-0 to any team."
Barcelona also capitalised on Real Madrid's defeat by recording a comfortable 5-2 victory over Athletic Bilbao, and Luis Enrique's men are now just one point behind - and three ahead of Atletico - in second place.
The reigning Spanish champions are now unbeaten in their last six meetings with Real Madrid, after taking advantage of the makeshift defence sent out by Ancelotti for the short trip across the city.
Diego Simeone couldn't have predicted the sloppy mistake made by Casillas, and fans wouldn't have anticipated the angry response that followed from Ronaldo, which might well have contributed to the poor performance he delivered after returning from a two-game suspension.
You can watch a clip showing how irked Cristiano Ronaldo got with his team-mate in the video above, and have your say if the returning star's rage was justifiable given the goalkeeping error.
