The enigmatic Mario Balotelli is in somewhat of an impossible position when it comes to his treatment from the football world and press.
After enduring a dreadful start to his Liverpool career so far, Super Mario came off the bench last night to score the winner against Tottenham and lift the roof off Anfield in the process.
Balotelli responded in a very mild manner, not getting too excited over his exploits and has been criticised for doing so.
Decision 'not great'
As reported by the Independant, while working for NBC, Phi Neville said that: "Balotelli will either win you the game or lose you the game" adding that his decision not to smile in the aftermath of the goal was "not great'.
Italy international striker Balotelli took to Instagram to respond and shed light on his celebration:
The former Man City striker says he would rather save his smiles for those who have always believed and maintained support for him; probably not the majority of people.
Balotelli can't win
If Balotelli had ran around Anfield celebrating like a madman then I'm sure those same people criticising him for not celebrating would be saying that he got too excited and should remember that he has still been under-par for the Reds since his move.
Instead, Liverpool fans should be assured that Balotelli is not resting on his laurels and is aware that it will take consistent hard work to re-capture his best form.
Balotelli has come under fire before after being accused of not celebrating goals and he snapped back with this humorous response:
"When I score, I don't celebrate because I'm only doing my job. When a postman delivers letters, does he celebrate?"
The striker should be criticised for not scoring goals, not for the way he behaves after scoring goals and after netting the winner last night, there are a lot of neutrals routing for Super Mario to further silence his vast amount of critics.
