Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford, according to The Guardian.
The report has claimed that Louis van Gaal's summer transfer plans could have major consequences for the club's struggling Spaniard.
It appears that the Red Devils' chief is set to enter the market for a midfield addition at the end of the campaign, which could ultimately spell the end of Herrera's short tenure with the club.
There's no doubt about it, the Spanish ace has endured a torrid time under the Louis van Gaal regime at the Theatre of Dreams throughout the course of the season so far.
In fact, despite impressing in the early stages of the season, Herrera hasn't made a Premier League start since the club's 2-1 victory over Stoke City at the start of December.

Struggles this year
2015, then, has proved a tricky time for Herrerra despite the fact that key midfield man Michael Carrick has been out on the sidelines of late.
It appears that, as well as Carrick, the likes of Daley Blind, Marouane Fellaini and even versatile forward Wayne Rooney are ahead of him in the pecking order at the club.
Rooney, of course, has been moved into midfield under the Dutch regime, meaning Herrera has more often than not had to settle for a place on the bench.
It's certainly not surprising that he faces an uncertain future at the club, but has he really had a chance to prove his credentials?
In truth, Herrera has not been handed a consistent place in the side, meaning he's never really been able to gain momentum on the pitch. However, he has at times proved exactly what he has to offer, having scored some fine goals for the club throughout the course of the season.
His style of play certainly suits the Red Devils, but it appears that Van Gaal doesn't trust him to operate in the midfield on a regular basis. The United boss may well be making a mistake, though, as the former Athletic man has more than enough ability to succeed at the club.
Van Gaal could be making a mistake by not giving Herrera his chance at the club; he may live to regret it.
