Manchester United are set to raid Serie A this summer with Louis van Gaal keen on signing two of the biggest stars from the division, reports the Telegraph.

The Red Devils are keen on signing AS Roma's Kevin Strootman and Juventus' Paul Pogba with Van Gaal confirming today that he needs to sign a midfielder at the end of the season.

Midfielder Wanted

Speaking ahead of the club's FA Cup tie with Preston North End, Van Gaal was very open about his summer plans and he stated that he needs to bring balance to the team and adding a midfielder is the way to do that.

‘I’m looking for balance and I need it in midfield,’ explained Van Gaal.

‘No [I don’t have all the players I need], but I’ve already said that. Every game that I was pleased with something, we have played parts of the game at a level where I think: ‘OK we have to [strengthen].’

In his first transfer window at the club, Van Gaal spent over £150million, including big deals for Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw and Angel Di Maria, but this summer it seems that central players will be the key.

On Van Gaal's radar is Strootman and Pogba, both whom have been linked with a move to Old Trafford for years now.

Strootman Interest

Strootman was strongly linked with a move to United last Summer as soon as Van Gaal took over at the club due to their Dutch connection, but after suffering a serious knee injury, the deal was put to bed and he stayed in Italy.

Van Gaal admitted near the end of the window that he will continue to monitor the midfielder and track his recovery from the injury and it's believed that a move in the Summer may happen.

Pogba Interest

As for Pogba, he is currently the most wanted footballer with several clubs around Europe wanting him.

The Frenchman left Old Trafford on a free after a fall-out with Sir Alex Ferguson, but with the Scot now away from the club, a move back could be on the cards.

According to reports, Pogba would cost United around £75million, whilst Strootman would be considered to cheaper option at around £25m.

However, with United's financial power and the new Premier League deal, a double raid could be on the cards for Van Gaal, which would see him spend near enough £100million yet again.
