Forget ‘park the bus’ this time Chelsea crashed the bus. No, this isn’t a new defensive tactic thought up from the mind of Jose Mourinho, but rather an actual crash.
Chelsea arrived in France ahead of their Champions League last 16 clash against Paris Saint-Germain and then began to make their way to the Parc des Princes by coach, as you would expect.
There is now way Mourinho could have foreseen Chelsea running into any walls before the game even started but as pictures showed last night, the team bus did just that. It is a very narrow passage down into the depths of the Parc des Princes that the bus had to fit through, but it’s not inaccessible.
However, the Blues' bus driver misjudged the turning and crashed into the wall wedging the bus up against it. There were also reports of a smashed window on the bus that the police were said to be looking in to.
Images surfaced on Twitter of the calamity showing various people trying to resolve the situation.
The crash meant the Chelsea players and their manager had to walk the rest of the way down the tunnel with pictures showing the ‘happy one’ not looking best pleased about the situation.
You can only imagine that before an important game like this one, Mourinho would have been very focused on the task in hand and then the driver goes and crashes the bus. It’s highly doubtful that the Portuguese would have seen the funny side of the accident at the time and probably let the driver know about it.
In the end it didn’t effect the team’s performance as they picked up a valuable 1-1 draw in Paris securing a vital away goal which means that when they host the Parisians at Stamford Bridge in three weeks time, they will be the favourites to progress.
