Blaise Matuidi was a Manchester United target - Phil Neville

Published Add your comment

Rejuvenated Manchester United winger Ashley Young has revealed that Louis van Gaal told him to stay wide and get crosses in prior to his introduction to the FA Cup clash with Preston North End on Monday. The previously-struggling midfielder, who has enjoyed a new lease of life under Van Gaal, came on as a sub for Radamel Falcao with the score at 1-0 to the home side, and eventually set up the equaliser for Ander Herrera. In transfer news ex-Red Devils coach Phil Neville, who served as part of David Moyes’ backroom team, has let on that United wanted to sign Paris Saint-Germain star Blaise Matuidi last year before he renewed his contract. According to Neville, United were impressed with his energy and box-to-box running. Lastly Serie A striker Mauro Icardi has admitted it’s an honour to be linked with the likes of United, but at the same time made it clear he’s more than happy at Inter Milan.
