Memphis Depay will move in the summer says PSV boss

PSV Eindhoven manager Phillip Cocu has admitted that top Manchester United target Memphis Depay is likely to leave the club in the summer.

The 21-year-old is one of the top-rated youngsters in Europe having burst onto the scene at the World Cup, and has been in sensational form so far this season.

He's scored 15 goals in 19 Eredivisie games this season while he's also scored six goals in the Europa League ahead of PSV's tie against Zenit St.Petersburg this evening. Cocu says the young forward's form is so good that it will be impossible to keep him in Holland beyond the summer.

When pressed he said: “Yes, I think he’s going to leave PSV after this season.”

Depay has been heavily linked with a reunion with Louis van Gaal at Manchester United, while Tottenham has also been touted as a potential destination as well. Despite his tender age Depay has already been compared to Cristiano Ronaldo thanks to his explosive style, but Cocu believes he has the potential to be as good as another world class winger.

“Whether he can be as good as Arjen Robben? I think so," he said. “They are different players, but they are both fast and have a good shot. And both always have the urge to learn.

The best

“But Memphis is only 21-years-old and only in a few years can real conclusions be drawn.”

A £17m fee has been mooted, but that figure could be driven up if more clubs enter the race for his services as expected. Manchester United should of course have the advantage given the Van Gaal connection, and he was linked with a move to Old Trafford as well as White Hart Lane in the summer but opted to stay put.

Memphis Depay has taken his game to another level this season, and it looks like he'll be the next great export from the Eredivisie to the Premier League. His pace is astonishing and his finishing is sublime too.

He seems better suited to the high-intensity pressing game of Tottenham than the slow-tempo tactics employed by Manchester United, but the bright lights of Old Trafford could prove to be too tempting. Whoever gets him will be confident that they've landed a player with the ability to make it to the very top.
