Wayne Rooney has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo and Paul Scholes are the best two players that he has played with.
As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Rooney, who was speaking during a Q&A session for Wings Chinese Restaurant, has hailed the pair of Ronaldo and Scholes as 'fantastic' for different reasons.
Rooney, of course, played with both players at Old Trafford, and won numerous Premier League titles and Champions League silverware with the two club legends, so it's not entirely surprising that he's picked them out as the very best there is.
When asked about the best players that he's played with, the United No.10 responded by saying: “There’s been so many. I can tell you two. I can’t tell you one. Cristiano Ronaldo and Paul Scholes.
“Those two, for different reasons, have been fantastic.”
There certainly won't be many Manchester United fans who disagree with Rooney's comments on Scholes and Ronaldo. After all, both players enjoyed incredible success alongside the United captain at the Theatre of Dreams.
Rooney's current coach Ryan Giggs, however, probably deserves a place alongside them, but it's unlikely that he will be too disappointed with the snub on this occasion.
Giggs and Rooney will currently be focusing on getting Manchester United back to their ultimate best. After last season's disappointments, the Red Devils have improved under Louis van Gaal, but certainly still have more to offer under the Dutch regime.
Rooney is also a great
There's no doubt about it, the subject of Wayne Rooney is one that divides opinion, but there will most certainly be a time when he's recognised as a great. Over the next couple of years expect the United and England captain to break the goalscoring record for both club and country, and write his name firmly into the history books.
He may well have had his up and downs throughout his career at Theatre of Dreams, but nothing should be taking away from the versatile forward. Many will suggest that he's not on the same level as the likes of Ronaldo, Scholes, Giggs and Co. at United, but he's certainly not that far behind. Rooney deserves to be appreciated for what he is.
