WWE Fastlane: Preview and Predictions

Published Add your comment

This Sunday we witness the last stop before WrestleMania 31 as Fastlane takes place at the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee replacing the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view.

The card for WrestleMania continues to take shape and the outcome of a number of matches at Fastlane will make the WrestleMania card clearer.

So far only six matches have been announced for the event with notable omissions including Seth Rollins, Dolph Ziggler, Kane, The Big Show and Ryback whilst it will also be interesting to see if Sheamus does make his return at the event as a heel; here are the GiveMeSport WWE writer’s predictions for Fastlane.

Right now The Usos look like the ‘go to’ guys in the tag team division, if the WWE need a team to hold the titles for a while then it’s The Usos. I don’t their title reigns have or will top their first title run but it’s great to see Cesaro and Tyson Kidd finally getting an opportunity at gold. As much as I’d like to see Tyson Kidd capture the titles I don’t think The Usos will drop the gold heading into WrestleMania especially with Rikishi being inducted into the Hall of Fame and the spotlight will be on their family. The likelihood is they’ll walk into WrestleMania as champions; at Fastlane The Usos will retain their titles.

Lead WWE Writer Phillipa Hopwood shares a similar view: Since the feud with Damien Mizdow and The Miz, I don’t think The Usos have been gaining a lot of momentum, but with their father going into the Hall of Fame and a lot of anticipation on them right now, it would be hard for WWE to be thinking of dropping the tag titles, especially so soon before WrestleMania. I think Kidd and Cesaro will be a formidable force and if given the chance they could capture the titles at next month’s event.

I was quite surprised to hear that this match was announced for Fastlane, for years fans have wanted the brothers to face off at WrestleMania and they still could. We have seen the tension growing between the two in recent weeks and if we see the return of Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania then I can see why this match is taking place this Sunday. Stardust is proving to be a very successful gimmick for Cody and it could continue if Goldust does call it a day, I believe Stardust will pick up a big win at Fastlane.

Phillipa: The brothers collide, despite Dusty Rhodes trying to step in and resolve the issues between the two brothers this week on Raw, it seems the two are still at odds. With Goldust’s retirement rumours circulating and Stardust in great form at the minute, it’s hard to see past a win for the younger brother and hopefully this will set up a collision on the grandest stage of them all.

This will be a very interesting match, it looks as if this feud has come out of nowhere but at the same time the two have provided more entertainment than some of the longer feuds. Before this feud was announced we did say that Bad News Barrett would be an ideal WrestleMania opponent for Ambrose and it looks as if that prediction was correct and it’s great to see the two superstars have the fans interested. The segment on Raw was brilliant and the manner in which it went down it won’t be a big surprise if there’s a twist due to the contract, however I do believe that if the two are to meet again it will be Bad News Barrett who retains on the first outing.

Phillipa: For me this is one of the most anticipated showdowns of the night, with the contract signing unconventional to say the least, it seems the match could be even more so. Will the match even go ahead? If Ambrose wins will it be held up as not a proper contract fight? It’s a hard match to predict but you have to think that all things considered Bad News Barrett will retain.

I wanted just one epic clash between the two at WrestleMania but it looks as if the WWE have something else up their sleeves by giving us this match a month early, which could mean they won’t battle it out at WrestleMania. I’ve always maintained that if Rusev if to lose, it will be at WrestleMania and I stick by that, John Cena won’t get a clean victory over Rusev at Fastlane and Rusev won’t get a clean victory over John Cena, I don’t understand why the title needs to be on the line but the WWE have decided to put it on the line. I feel we’ve seen this side of Cena before, and it wasn’t really anything new with him trying to defeat someone bigger than him. We might even get the return of a heel Sheamus in this match as it looks like the match with Daniel Bryan, anything can happen and this is a very tough match to call. However it happens, Rusev will walk out of Fastlane as the United States Champion.

Phillipa: It’s the match many predicted would finally see Rusev conquered, but it couldn’t seem further than that at the moment. John looks the way he did before he faced Brock Lesnar last year when he realised to beat the beast he had to become the beast, but with John nursing an eye injury and Rusev looking stronger and more formidable than ever, it seems highly likely Rusev will be the one to go over Cena this weekend and set up a past vs. future match for this year’s WrestleMania.

Nikki Bella is growing as a strong champion as the weeks pass by and everyone in England will be rooting for Paige to capture the title but at Fastlane, I don’t think she’ll do it. They probably won’t have a lot of time in the ring which is a shame especially with the recent NXT Women’s Championship match which wowed the fans and the main roster divas will want to show why they belong on the main roster. Nikki Bella will retain and we could see her drop it at WrestleMania if Brie does turn face.

Phillipa: I would love nothing more than for Paige to walk out of this a three time Divas Champion, but sadly it doesn’t seem this way. All the build-up has seen Nikki and Brie victimising Paige, but it doesn’t look likely that Paige will get the ultimate revenge. Nikki is being build up as the ultimate diva right now and the only way this will look good for her is if she disposes of Paige in record time.

I’m quite disappointed that this match has to go ahead to accommodate the WWE Universe’ needs. I’m not the biggest Roman Reigns fan but he can’t catch a break right now and it’s a shame to see the fans turn on him. Bryan does deserve his spot in the main event but he had his year last year and nothing will top his underdog story not even a victory at WrestleMania this year. If we look at realistic booking considering we are in a reality era, the reality is Brock Lesnar will defeat The Undertaker and he did last year and conquered the streak. The reality is John Cena cannot defeat Brock Lesnar and we saw Lesnar decimate Cena at SummerSlam; it’s odd to see fans believe that realistically Bryan can defeat Lesnar and if we do see Bryan take on Lesnar and defeat him that just shows that lesnar’s most dominant year in the WWE wasn’t dominant at all if Bryan can beat him, with Reigns it’s a different story. Saying that, I do think both men will get to WrestleMania, this won’t end cleanly and I think The Big Show, Sheamus or even Seth Rollins could get involved in some manner which will see both Reigns and Bryan headline WrestleMania alongside Brock Lesnar.

Phillipa: With a main event spot at WrestleMania on the line, this could be the showdown of all showdowns. With fans completely divided on who they think will win this one, it’s a very hard one to predict. For me I think there is going to be a twist, there is no way this match is ending clean. Either Sheamus will get involved to set up a match with Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania or someone else will, namely Seth Rollins, either way, I can’t see this being as straight forward as it should be.
