FC Porto striker Jackson Martinez is ready to snub Manchester United in favour of sealing a lucrative summer transfer to Arsenal.
The Colombia international has been heavily linked with a move away from Estadio do Dragao at the end of the season, with the two Premier League giants predicted to fight it out for his signature.
And, according to Portuguese publication A Bola, the 28-year-old has already decided that he'd prefer to move to the Emirates Stadium over Old Trafford, after recent comments made by Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, who spoke positively about the possible impact the South American marksman could make in England.
"He could play in the Premier League, Jackson Martinez, because he has the body to make the difference," Wenger was quoted saying by The Express. "He uses it in a very intelligent way, very short backlift and is a very good finisher."
With 25 goals to his name already in 2014/15 - bringing his overall total to 85 goals in just 120 appearances for Porto since moving to the Primeira Liga from Mexican side Chiapas in 2012 - it's easy to see why the Arsenal manager appears to rate Martinez so highly.
However, news of the player's alleged desire to head to north London ahead of the Theatre of Dreams will come as a massive blow to Louis van Gaal, particularly as he is believed to be on the lookout for attacking reinforcements as Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao's struggles in front of goal continue.
Falcao is currently on a season-long loan at Manchester United, but his failure to maintain fitness and form means it's becoming increasingly likely that the Colombian will return to AS Monaco upon the expiry of that deal at the end of the season.
Julen Lopetegui will be desperate to keep his leading marksman in Porto for as long as possible, but the fact Martinez has already intimated his intention to quit the club in a few months time means the Dragons coach could be forced to find a replacement for next term.
Champions League blank
Martinez actually fired a rare blank in Porto's 1-1 draw with FC Basel in the Champions League on Wednesday, but thankfully Danilo's second-half penalty drew the visitors level at St. Jakob-Park after Derlis Gonzalez had given the Swiss outfit the lead before the interval.
