The undefeated five division world champion shared an image of a contract signed by himself and Pacquiao and, finally, the two will meet in the ring to once and for all answer the biggest question in boxing: which of the two is the better fighter?
“What the world has been waiting for has arrived," Mayweather said.
"Mayweather vs. Pacquiao on May 2, 2015, is a done deal. I promised the fans we would get this done, and we did.

The MGM Grand Hotel & Casino was fully booked just three minutes after Mayweather’s announcement, confirming what we all expected; this fight will break every box office record in existence.
Early reports are suggesting the deal agreed by both men is a 60-40 split in favour of Las Vegas resident Mayweather, with the purse expected to initially be $160 million, this sum however could and most likely will rise to in excess of $200 million.
The fight will be a joint pay-per-view broadcast on both HBO and Showtime which is expected to cost a record-high $89.95 for the American market. It’s also expected that the fight will be broadcast on Sky Box Office in the United Kingdom at a similar cost.
THE TRASH TALK BEGINS
Mayweather has already fired the first shot stating: “Manny is going to try to do what 47 before him failed to do, but he won't be successful. He will be number 48.”
The welterweight and junior middleweight world champion clearly hasn't lost any of his trademark confidence or bravado and seems to be taking all the hype in his stride.
Mayweather will need much more of this confidence if he is going to overcome the biggest test in his illustrious and currently perfect career, and this may be the signature victory ‘Money’ needs to reinforce his claim of being the best to ever lace up a pair of gloves.
The quiet and reserved Pacquiao chose the diplomatic route with the Filipino legend taking to social media to say: "I am very happy that Floyd Mayweather and I can give the fans the fight they have wanted for so many years.
"They have waited long enough and they deserve it. It is an honor to be part of this historic event.
"I dedicate this fight to all the fans who willed this fight to happen and, as always, to bring glory to the Philippines and my fellow Filipinos around the world.”
THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS
After all the years of wait, speculation and rumours, we now have just over two months of to go until “It’s Showtime” and a fight that many gave up on is now unbelievably just around the corner.
This one is about much more than the crown of unified welterweight world champion, it’s about legacy, about the label of best fighter of this era and maybe even dare I say best fighter of all time.
