Manchester United are reported to have identified Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski as a potential replacement for the much-maligned Radamel Falcao.
Falcao is at Old Trafford on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season but, with only four goals, it seems more than likely the agreement will be terminated in the summer.
It is claimed by the Daily Express that Louis van Gaal is an admirer of Lewandowski whose future with Bayern Munich has been called into question of late.
The Polish striker has scored 13 goals for Bayern since his summer move from Borussia Dortmund and has actually been in good form at the peak of Pep Guardiola's attack.
He was, however, moved onto the left for Bayern's demolition of Hamburg and was then left on the bench for the Champions League encounter with Shakhtar Donetsk that followed.

It would seem ridiculous that Bayern would consider selling a player who has actually performed well at the Allianz Arena, although Didi Hamann has been stoking speculation by urging a clutch of Premier League sides to move for the 26-year-old.
“If you look at Manchester United, I think they could do with a Lewandowski,” Hamann told Sky Sports.
“At the moment United, Liverpool and even Arsenal... Lewandowski is tailor-made for them.
“He came to Bayern Munich on a free last year but if there was an opportunity to get him out I’d break the bank for him because I think he’s the best No 9 in the world.”
Lewandowski is player Manchester United would no doubt like to have, and they are certainly in need of another striker of repute. But Bayern would be mad to sell, and it's difficult to envisage them doing so.
