The Jacksonville Jaguars are on a mission this offseason to equip themselves with a set of players capable of helping them improve on a 3-13 2014 season and, according to reports today, they have identified one player in particularly who they are ready to break the bank to capture.
Making a move
As reported by CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, the Jaguars are planning to "make a very strong play" for upcoming free agent Ndamukong Suh.
Suh is set to be highly sought after when free agency opens next month with the Detroit Lions failing as of yet o secure a new deal for the defensive tackle, and the Jaguars will have to pay big if they are to win out against several rival offers.
Big Money needed
In a free agency class that includes Dez Bryant, DeMarco Murray, Randall Cobb and both Julius and Demaryius Thomas it is Suh who is expected to be the man offered the biggest pay check when the offseason comes to an end.
Reports suggest Suh is seeking to become the highest paid defensive player in the entire NFL. With current Defensive Player of the Year, JJ Watt, on a $100 million dollar deal that is certainly a hefty addition to the salary cap for any team.
Jacksonville, unlike the likes of Detroit, have plenty of cap space so the ability to pay Suh isn't a question.
What may stop them in their tracks when it comes to negotiating with the controversial star is convincing Suh that he should link up with a team that remains far from ready to complete into the postseason.
However with other strugglers such as the Jets, Raiders and Bears amongst the main front runners for Suh, the Jags will be confident of being in the shake up.
Suh may have been on the wrong end of a number of headlines during his time in the NFL but In his five seasons with the Detroit Lions he has consistently shown himself to be a man capable of restricting opponent's offenses almost single-handedly.
Potentially the best interior lineman in the whole league, he has 36 sacks in total as well as 180 total tackles and would immediately become the main man in Jacksonville.
What do you think Jags fans? Can you realistically acquire Suh, and is he worth the money he demands? Let us know in the comments section below...
