Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry has praised teammate Mesut Ozil and believes the German playmaker makes those around him better.
Speaking before Wednesday night's 3-1 defeat to AS Monaco in the Champions League last-16 first leg - a match in which Ozil flattered to deceive - Gnabry told Arsenal Player that playing alongside the 26-year-old makes everything easier.
Whether Ozil's other Arsenal teammates would agree with Gnabry after Wednesday night's shocker, however, is unclear.
“He’s one of the best playmakers there is in the world, and for me as an attacking player, it’s great to play alongside him and learn from him," Gnabry said. “It’s a lot easier to play with someone like Mesut because he can make you shine. I’m happy to be playing with him and learning from him.
“He’s very special. We’ve all seen what he’ve capable of. When he was at Madrid, in my eyes, he was one of the best playmakers in the world and still is up to now.”
Ozil was heavily criticised by fans and pundits alike for his lacklustre display against Monaco on Wednesday - and was somewhat fortunate that Olivier Giroud took the spotlight away from him with an even worse performance.
The German World Cup winner, once regarded as the standout playmaker on the planet, has failed to produce his best form since completing his £42.4 million move to the Emirates Stadium from Real Madrid and continues to frustrate the Gunners' faithful.

Theo Walcott involved in fan altercation
Arsenal fans thought last night couldn't get any worse - then the Daily Mail released this report stating Theo Walcott was involved in an altercation with the club's supporters.
Fans were reportedly annoyed after watching Walcott embrace Monaco defender Aymen Abdennour before swapping shirts with the Tunisia international and vented their anger towards the 25-year-old.
Walcott then apparently reacted by gesturing towards the Arsenal fans with his hand - showing them he was unconcerned by their anger.

Loic Perrin confirms Arsenal approach
And finally, Saint-Etienne centre-back Loic Perrin has confirmed that Arsenal attempted to sign him during the winter transfer window.
The 29-year-old was quoted by Le 10 Sport as claiming he was tempted by the transfer but a move failed to materialise.
“I was contacted during the winter transfer window by Arsenal. It did not happen for various reasons," the defender revealed. "But clubs like that, obviously they make you think. This is what I've always said; if I am to leave Saint-Etienne, it's to take the next step. Arsenal was a club at that next level.”
