WWE: Update on AJ Lee's tweets to Stephanie McMahon

Published 9 Comments

It's no secret that WWE's Divas Division has lost it's edge. Since divas like Melina, Mickie James, Beth Phoenix, Trish Stratus and Lita left the company a few years ago, the division has been dropping further and further down the pecking order.

Divas dropping off

When AJ Lee came along, it seemed that WWE had finally found a saviour and it looked to be that way when she held the Divas Title for a record 295 days and Stephanie McMahon and Brie Bella headlined an episode of Raw.

Things were looking up for the Divas as many pay-per-views last year saw more than one divas match and SummerSlam had some of the greatest build-up ever seen for a clash of females.

That being said, all of their hard work seems to have gone out of the window as of late. Nikki Bella taking the Divas title was a huge blow to the division and since then the whole pack has been made to look weak. It seems Monday night's 30 second divas match was too much for former three time Divas Champion AJ Lee as she tweeted to her boss, and one half of WWE's Authority, Stephanie McMahon to vent her frustration.

It has since been explained that AJ is in fact correct in the information she Tweeted. The females of WWE are paid significantly less than the men, because thats the way it's always been, but the NXT women are paid more than the men because it is what is expected.

The Indy wrestlers in NXT are happy to take pay cuts from WWE just to be a part of the product whilst the females are athletes and models and have to earn a certain amount to maintain their look.

The female segments AJ refers to are the ones that included her when she was part of the Daniel Bryan/CM Punk storyline and that was a high performing rivalry for WWE, whilst Stephanie and Brie didn't do as well last year.

Regarding the merchandise though, it is thought that the females have never come close to the numbers the male superstars are currently making.

AJ situation

It is understood that AJ did this all off her own back, it was speculated that it could be building up to a divas match between AJ and Stephanie at Wrestlemania, but it seems Stephanie was shocked by the Tweets . After it was confirmed that AJ wasn't hacked Stephanie was informed by her father, Vince McMahon, to reply thanking AJ for her opinion.

Where this leaves the diva, who is still contracted with WWE despite being currently out injured, remains to be seen, but it will be a heated confrontation when she finally does grace WWE again.

What do you think WWE fans? Is the current Divas situation fair, and what do you think should be done about it? Let us know in the comments section below...
