Juan Mata is ready to stay at Manchester United and prove that he is good enough to cement a place in Louis van Gaal’s starting XI, which will also see him refuse to pursue a possible switch to Barcelona.

According to the Sun on Sunday, the £37million signing from Chelsea in January transfer window last year is on the Camp Nou radar, despite the Catalans facing a transfer embargo after breaching rules regarding the signing of young players.

Mata is currently struggling to get into the Old Trafford side and could be excused for being tempted to return to his home nation with the Liga giants, but a source quoted in the report claims that the former Valencia man is not prepared to give up just yet.

“He has promised himself that he is going to be a success at United and wants to be part of their history,” the source is quoted as saying.

He does not really deserve a place in Van Gaal’s team at the moment and has been found out for a lack of physicality in the Premier League. Mata’s quality is undoubted, but his form no longer justifies his manager’s protecting his lack of power and pace in their team selections.

It is time that he gave up the ghost in England, as the competition for places at the top teams will be won by other people. Going back to his homeland would provide him with a league that suits his style more and give him a chance to save his international career.
