Manchester United striker Radamel Falcao is set to be offered a summer move to Valencia, who are serious about using their new financial might to sign the Colombian international.
Falcao has failed to find top form at Old Trafford, scoring just four times in 20 matches. That hasn't stopped Valencia emerging as contenders for his signature though, with The Sun reporting that new owner Peter Lim would jump at the chance to sign the £46 million rated star.
Lim has strong links to Falcao's agent Jorge Mendes too, a man who helped him finally complete a protracted takeover at the Mestalla. That could work to his advantage when it comes to negotiations for Falcao, who is also wanted by Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus.
Permanent move looks dead in the water
By all accounts Falcao's chances of completing a permanent move to United now look slim to say the least. United brought a proven world-class finisher to the club on a season-long loan for £6m last summer, in the hope of partnering Falcao with Robin van Persie.
The two don't look capable of thriving in tandem though, which means its tough for Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal to justify shelling out to keep a man earning a quite incredible £265,000-a-week before tax, even given United's vast financial resources.
Valencia move looks likely
Unless Falcao enjoys a wonderful end to the campaign his reputation will have taken a huge hit based on his efforts this season, although it has to be said he did only suffered a career-threatening cruciate ligament injury 12 months ago.
Struggles in the Premier League may well mean Europe's elite clubs will think twice about splashing the cash for Falcao this summer, which is why Valencia looks a strong and viable option to revive his career.
Falcao has a fantastic track record in La Liga and would get to be the main man at Valencia, not play second fiddle to another top striker.
Valencia also have a great chance of qualifying for the Champions League and want to challenge La Liga's elite next season, so expect them to spend big this summer and use Mendes as the link man for that transfer strategy.
Man United fans, do you think Falcao is still worth signing this summer, or would you be happy to let Valencia spend big on a player past his prime? Let us know by having your say in the comment box below.
