Paris Saint-Germain's Brazilian centre back Marquinhos, who has been continually linked with a move to Manchester United, has confirmed the Red Devils' interest in him.
Marquinhos was tipped to join United in the January transfer window to strengthen Louis Van Gaal's faltering defence, but it came as a surprise when United ended all their transfer ordeals after signing ex-Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes on a free transfer.
Speaking to the French paper L'Equipe, the 20-year-old revealed that it was PSG who closed down any deal linking him away from Paris. But this decision came as a reassurance of PSG's trust and confidence in him.
"I'm calm, concentrated. I leave all this to my agent," Marquinhos told L'Equipe, when asked about United's alleged interest.
"Before, PSG refused to begin negotiations. They have shut the door. I see this as something to take confidence from."
But United should not be disheartened by PSG's stern refusal to negotiate any potential deal as they have managed to plant the seen in the Brazilian's head. The former AS Roma player admits that he is flattered by Van Gaal's interest and believes that it is rewarding that a club of United's stature want him at the heart of their defence.
"It proves PSG count on me but, to be honest, it makes me happy to see Manchester United are interested in me. It's validating," he added.
These quotes should come as welcoming news for United ahead of any potential move in the summer. The 20 times English champions are in dire need of strengthening at the back and with injuries & inconsistency surrounding Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans, Marquinhos could be the candidate to partner summer arrival Marcos Rojo in the United back four.
