Everton midfielder James McCarthy is attracting serious interest from some of the biggest clubs in the Premier League including Manchester United and Arsenal.
Tottenham have also been linked with a move for the Republic of Ireland international according Daily Mail.
The 24-year-old has impressed during his time with the Toffees despite the fact his side have struggled badly this season, and now it seems as though some of the Premier League big boys may try and tempt him away from Goodison Park.
McCarthy joined Everton in a £13 million deal from Wigan in 2013 and penned a new five-year contract with the club in 2014, however that won’t stop his suitors trying to make their move.
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United are on the lookout for a new midfield target with Kevin Strootman out of the picture once more, and with McCarthy now viewed as one of the most consistent performers in the Premier League he may be viewed as an alternative.
Both Tottenham and Arsenal looked at the possibility of a move in the January transfer window but failed to firm up their interest. Both clubs have also been linked with Southampton ace Morgan Schneiderlin for some time now and could move for him at the end of the season, although it could make things interesting of Everton do make McCarthy available.
Roberto Martinez is adamant that he will keep hold of his star midfielder and is hopeful that he will agree a new deal in order to keep him from the clutches of his suitors.
Inadvertently, Manchester United may have stumbled upon their perfect midfield man. McCarthy is just what they need; a solid, consistent midfielder with an eye for a pass. He won’t command a massive fee and won’t be difficult to manage.
The Red Devils have learned that throwing money at the problem doesn’t always work - it’s just a shame it took an injury to Strootman before they started looking at a quality British player.
