After announcing his departure from TNA, Samoa Joe was the hottest free agent in the wrestling industry but a man of his talent was never going to stay out of work for too long as Ring of Honor quickly snapped him up.
Joe was part of Ring of Honor’s 13th anniversary special and the likelihood is that he will enter a feud with Ring of Honor World Champion Jay Briscoe at some point in his short-term deal with the company.
Last month it was widely speculated that Triple H was very interested in bringing Samoa Joe to the WWE, more specifically to NXT as he would add a wealth of experience to an already talented roster.
That same report suggested that Vince McMahon wasn’t too keen on bringing him in but if Triple H gets his way then we could expect to see Joe on the NXT roster and now Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer has provided fans with an update on his situation.
Meltzer reported that Samoa Joe will be ending his short sting with Ring Of Honor around April 25 and will even compete on the Supercard Of Honor IX event just two days before WrestleMania 31. After his appearances he is expected to make his way to the WWE.
Meltzer highlighted that Samoa Joe is going to continue his work on the independent scene for the next month or so and then following that he will do something with the WWE but he isn’t too sure if he has signed an actual contract, whether it’s an NXT move or whether there’s a verbal agreement but he does believe that Samoa Joe is WWE bound.
“The belief is, I don’t know what the whole thing is, but there’s a WWE component to it.” – Dave Meltzer.
This latest piece of news continues to add to the previous rumors that Samoa Joe will indeed be heading to the WWE. Samoa Joe is a veteran in the wrestling industry and would be a huge asset to the WWE including NXT where the WWE will look for him to provide knowledge to the up-and-coming stars and the fans will want to see Joe go at it with current NXT Champion, Kevin Owens.
Meltzer played down the rumours that Samoa Joe will join New Japan Pro Wrestling because if he wanted to go down that route, he would have done so whilst part of Ring of Honor.
NXT OR MAIN ROSTER?
Fans will call for Samoa Joe to debut in the WWE on the main roster without having to go through developmental because of the experience he has, not only wrestling but a successful World Champion as well. He has the charisma and is great on the microphone so it will be interesting to see what the WWE do with him, should he eventually sign with the WWE.
Former WWE Champion CM Punk sparked rumours of a one-off match between two last week, tweeting: “I owe you on, PAL”, referencing a Vince McMahon quote but if Samoa Joe is headed to the WWE then this match won’t take place.
It will be a great milestone in his already-successful career. He will also appear on Chris Jericho’s ‘Talk is Jericho; podcast this Friday where he will hopefully shed some more light on his future.
