Manchester United fans want Louis van Gaal to drop Argentine winger Angel di Maria for tonight's Premier League showdown with Newcastle United, reports the Manchester Evening News.
MEN conducted a poll to find out which starting XI the Old Trafford faithful would go with for tonight's clash at St James' Park.
Di Maria out
And it appears that they want club record signing Di Maria to face the axe after his poor form. The ex-Real Madrid man has endured a torrid time at the club of late, having failed to prove his credentials in the starting XI.
In fact, as the Red Devils secured all three points against Sunderland on home soil this past weekend, Di Maria was dragged off at half time after another disappointing display.
It remains to be seen, however, as to whether Van Gaal will opt to drop him tonight or whether the Dutchman will hand him one last chance to shine in the starting line-up.
Januzaj to replace him?
And it appears that United followers want Belgian international Adnan Januzaj to replace him in the side. The talented youngster, who burst onto the Old Trafford scene under David Moyes last term, has struggled to secure a regular role this term, but proved his credentials in the second half against the Black Cats.
Januzaj certainly has a bright future in the game, but will now be determined to make an impact at the club before the end of the season. Fans of United certainly believe in him to do the business; it's now up to Van Gaal to hand him a chance from the start.
Fans' starting XI
David de Gea, Antonio Valencia, Marcos Rojo, Chris Smalling, Luke Shaw, Adnan Januzaj, Daley Blind, Ander Herrera, Ashley Young, Wayne Rooney, Radamel Falcao.
Di Maria will come good
In truth, it may well prove the right decision to take the versatile midfielder out of the firing line for the Newcastle match. He certainly doesn't look to be anywhere near the player he was at the Bernabeu, so could do with taking some time out.
However, United fans should continue to stick by Di Maria as he has more than enough about him to deliver the goods for the club. Despite his troubles, the Argentine has actually racked up eight assists for the club this term, so will no doubt prove to be an influential player once he gets back to his best.
Given time he will settle at Old Trafford, and he will become a leading player for the club as they go in search of success under the Van Gaal regime.
