Jose Mourinho is considering a shock move for 43-year-old goalkeeper Brad Friedel.
Chelsea are drawing up a contingency plan as they prepare for life without second choice goalkeeper Petr Cech if he decided to force a move away from Stamford Bridge due to lack of action.
Cech, 32, has been at the West London side for over a decade collecting 12 winners’ medals on the way, with his most recent coming in the Carling Cup final 2-0 victory over Tottenham on the weekend. The Czech Republic international has been rumoured with a move away from the Premier League leaders after spending most of this season sitting on the bench with Thibaut Courtois being the preferred choice.

Chelsea will try hard to persuade Cech to stay at the club, but realise it could be a mammoth task as he searches for regular football.
The experienced 32-year-old, who is still regarded as one of the best in the world, is not short of admirers with Arsenal, Liverpool, Roma, Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco all watching closely, if the goalkeeper decides a move away from Chelsea is best for him.
Spurs veteran Brad Friedel who will turn 44 in May is a surprise candidate for Jose Mourinho with Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Rob Green, Celtic’s Craig Gordon and Aston Villa’s Shay Given also under consideration.
Friedel has made 450 appearances in the Premier League and European experience under his belt that could attract Mourinho. Friedel is yet to make an appearance this season for Spurs as he has fallen down the pecking order with Pochettino signing Michel Vorm in the summer.
With Friedel and Given used to not playing on a weekly basis I think Mourinho will step up his interest in one of these goalkeepers, as Green and Gordon wouldn’t want to move if they knew that they would be warming the bench for long periods of time.
