Jonny Evans accused of second spitting incident - round-up (1)

Jonny Evans and Papiss Cisse continue to feature prominently among the back pages after charges were brought against each player by the Football Association in relation to an incident on Wednesday night.

The pair are accused of spitting each other during Manchester United’s narrow victory at Newcastle and face lengthy suspensions, with six-games the suggested ban.

While Cisse has accepted the charge Evans has decided to fight it, and released a strongly worded statement in an attempt to clear himself of any wrongdoing. It will be interesting to see how this develops.

A fresh angle on this story emerged on Saturday as John Cross reported in The Mirror that Evans was also under investigation for a second spitting incident in the same ill-tempered encounter at St James’ Park.

The Manchester United centre-back has since been cleared of this second allegation, although he may not be fortunate enough to escape sanction for his clash with Cisse.
